HP X2 612 with Windows 10 Enterprise loaded - Camera App will not work in Win but does in other apps - need to fix

We are having a significant issue with the Windows camera application on the new HP Pro 612 x2’s

As detailed below techs have tried multiple Operating Systems with the Camera application and driver fully up to date.

The camera device works correctly with other applications – e.g. Skype for business.

We need the camera application working for the staff in the field.



We have spoken to both HP and Microsoft and their advice has been to have all drivers and software up to date.

This has been done without success.

HP believe that it is an issue with the versions of Windows we have been using – even though we have used multiple.



We are using our Windows rollout image of the Operating systems that we downloaded from the Microsoft licensing site – we apply these OS’s with success to all other laptops and PC’s

The Enterprise version of Windows 10 is our strongly preferred version.



And lastly – the camera application works correctly with the factory image that arrives with the tablets. (Windows 10 Professional)

We have compared the Camera application and Camera driver versions on the factory installation with our image installation and they are the same.

We need to be able to use our image installation process as any rebuilds of the tablets will be done this way.

  1. Tried Windows 10 v1709 Enterprise
  2. Tried Windows 10 v1709 Professional
  3. Tried Windows 10 v1703 Enterprise
  4. Tried Windows 10 v1607 Enterprise
  5. Tried reinstalling the Intel® AVStream Camera 2500 driver multiple times
  6. Tried drivers from HP Driver Pack, SoftPaq & Manually downloading and installing from HP.com
  7. Tried camera app reset
  8. Tried complete uninstall / resinstall of camera app
  9. Verified running latest version of camera app
  10. Verified running latest version of Intel® AVStream Camera 2500 driver.
  11. Verified status = OK for camera app running Get-AppxPackage *camera* on the machine



When you start the camera app it works for about 1 second before the image freezes. Sometimes it randomly switches between the front and back camera. If you try to take a photo it comes up with error messages. If you close and reopen the app straight away it just loads a black window.



The only things that seem related in event viewer is this reoccurring application error event. I have no idea if this event has anything to do with the camera:

Is Win Enterprise the issue here? Is there another app that they could use in the meantime?
