KB935807 install error 0x80070002

R

Richard

WU persistently fails to install this automatically downloaded update with
this error:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with
error 0x80070002: Security Update for Windows Vista (KB935807).

I downloaded the update manually & installed it & it is show installed ok,
but WU still downloads & tries to install it.
I tried deleting the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir dir & rebooting
but it still downloads it on reboot.

Any ideas please?

I have this same problem. This won't help you solve it right now, but I
suggest monitoring this post --->

Go to the Microsoft website. there is a link (I think under support) where
you can submit a ticket for free help with upgrades. I've used them twice
and was very satisfied. There is also a link on the screen where you receive
the error-try clicking on that as well.

Hi Richard,

I had to install the updates one at a time to get them to install from
Windows Update. Except, like you I had to download the "Stand Alone"
installer, from the details link in Windows Update, to get (KB935807)
installed. To get rid of the update notice in Windows Update for it you
will need to hide it. This will stop Vista from trying to install it
from Windows Update. Here is a link on how to do that.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

It appears that downloading and installing manually does the job then u need
2 hide the update, but in the installed updates kb935807 doesnt show so is it
installed or not?

In my "View update history", it shows as "Security update for Windows
(KB935807)" instead of the one from the regular Windows update
"Security update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB935807)".
Which is hidden.

You should have the first one listed if the download installed
successfully. If not, you might need to download it and install again.

hayz,

Yeah, I have the same thing with it not listed in the "Program and
Features" installed updates. I suppose it has to do with it being
installed from a stand alone installer instead of through Windows Update
itself. ??

As long as it is listed in the "View update history" as being installed
successfully then it is ok.
