Windows 10 update failures

After many frustrating attempts to upgrade Windows 10 on multiple computers, both my own and customers I have stumbled upon a method that seems quick and successful. Updating windows through windows update in settings results in an extremely long wait times just to check for updates. Then the download takes forever. At least 50% of the time the update fails. (its not my internet). My guess is Microsoft does not have enough resources (bandwidth) to handle all the requests.

What I have found to work nicely is search for the update you are trying install using copy and paste from settings/windows update. That will bring you to catalog update on the Microsoft website. Look for the update that is compatible with your system and the matching KB number. You may have to wait a week for the latest updates to be posted. Then click on the link and download the update. When download is finished, install as administrator or a popup box gives you the go ahead to install. If you picked the wrong update it will give you an error message to the effect that this update is already installed. Took me less than 10 minutes to successfully update. Windows settings/update typically takes hours and then fails 50% of the time. I use mac books as well and never ever have trouble with updates. GRFtech
