No drag and drop possible

G

GR

On my Toshiba Satellite 2800 with Windows SE is impossible to drag and drop
files from a floppy or CD-ROM onto the desktop. Nor is it possible to drag
and drop a file on the desktop into a newly created folder on the desktop.

Have you tried dragging & dropping with another mouse?

Hey, sorry about that, didn't mean to send three times.
Do you think I should try another mouse? (g)

Windows SE?

Do you mean Windows 98 SE (in which case, you're in the wrong NewsGroup -
try microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion) or do you mean Windows Millennium
(WinMe)?

If you can't drag and drop, can you copy and paste the files?

Also, does it only affect the "desktop" and the "newly created folder on the
desktop"?
What about other (existing) folders or locations?

In other words, can you drag and drop other files/folders already existing
on your hard drive or is this drag and drop issue only affecting your floppy
and CD-ROM drives?

I may be off base here, but, are you using the 'touchpad' mouse on the front
of the laptop or an ancillary mouse? In either case, have you looked at the
touchpad/mouse properties and settings to insure everything is set properly?
If you are using the touchpad, do you have a USB mouse that you can try?
Post back with your set up specs......someone should be able to assist.
Heirloom, old and optical mice have no
balls

He did say, it also occurs while working between desktop and newly created
folders, Mart and in all probability he's referring to Win98 SE.
There might be something wrong with the drag and drop function itself.
In that case you may have the answer, unless he found it himself by now on
the appropriate ng. <H>.

Indeed Harry, but he didn't say it ONLY occurs that way. Hence, I was trying
to elicit more detail. If it's a global problem with d&d ONLY, then it's
possibly a registry issue - or of course a driver issue - but would have
expected to hear of other symptoms besides d&d, in that case.

Let's just hope GR responds with more detail
