Windows Vista Install in VMware

Hello. I want to add Windows Vista to my collection of Windows OS in VMware. I know that Windows Vista is unsupported as of 2017, but I was hoping someone could answer this question. Can I install Windows Vista service pack 1 on a bare virtual machine, or do I need the first Windows Vista to install SP1? If I need the first Windows Vista, can someone tell me a legal way to get it online for free? Please get to me ASAP. Thanks!
