Need advise when you have storage replica and deduplication at the same time
We have WS 2016 DC Server (Server A) as our storage server with 2 x 50 TB of volumes at site A. The volumes are deduplicated and are giving us a savings of about 55% on both the volumes, which is great.
Now, plan is to setup a DR server (Server B) at Site B with Server-to-Server storage replica and deduplication enabled. Server B server is identical to Server A. After reading the technical doco from Microsoft, it says "Storage Replica is fully supported. Data Deduplication should be configured to not run on the secondary copy."
If I have interpreted it correctly, deduplication should only be enabled on Server A?
If that is correct, then what will happen if Server A is unavailable and we need to reverse the replication to get Server B online, will there be no deduplication on Server B volumes?
If the above is true then in the situation when Server A's deduplicated data size goes over its logical limit (50TB), the failover will not work or the data will be missing on Server B?
I did some research, was unable to find much info on the topic.
Any responses will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
