win 98 main os problem

windows 98 os ans alot of the files are missing the hard disk is compressed
and im trying to install 2000 to have working os but the hard disk is
compressed and i cant uncompress the drive what do i do to beable to install
the 2000 to have running os

If what you're indicating is that drive space / double space was used on
the drive, you will have to use the original program to uncompress the
drive. Try using an ERB disk [emergency recovery boot disk - bootdisk.com].
NOTE: any compressed drive will expand considerable. You will likely need
to uncompress segments of the drive, delete those files after saving [if you
want them], and continue in that manner.

First off, an upgrade from win98 to Win2000 is very likely to have severe
problems.
best thing to do is backup your data.
Once that's done it will not matter if the drive is compressed...
simply boot from your win2k cd and delete the partition...
and format the drive to perform a clean install
