So currently we have an old 2003 file server that we're moving away from. I'm building two 2012 Servers to replace them. The current namespace is \\dom01. Ideally, due to some legacy software, we would like to have the new namespace have the exact same name. But when I go to set up the new dfs namespace on the new 2012 servers, it only seems to give me the option to use the domain name and then the root, no matter if I use the domain-based namespace (\\my.domain\dom01) or the stand-alone namespace (\\fs01\dom01). It seems that I want to do the domain-based since these files will be split across two target servers with no replication.
Does anyone know how I can reuse \\dom01? I would hate to start building all of this and find out later that I can't change the namespace, if I could set this up how I want from the beginning. Thanks!
