Childs account is listed as an adult

Due to some trust issues with my son I am looking to place restrictions on his computer. I set myself up as an administrator on his PC. But I see that his Microsoft account is listed as an adult despite the fact that his birthday shows he was born in 2005. How can I convert his adult account into a child's account? Or if I have to delete his account and sign him up with a new account how can I do that without loosing all of his stuff?
