Laptop:
i7 6820hK
1070 GTX
32gb 2666MHz RAM
500gb SSD
win 10 version: 1803
Symptoms:
csrss.exe takes high GPU usage which makes laptop slow. This only happens at desktop screen. If I open a browser or file explorer and maximize window, GPU usage under csrss.exe will drop to normal (~ 0 %). However, if I shrink the size of the window to partially show desktop, GPU usage by csrss.exe increases to ~ 40% again.
Supporting Comments:
1. Task manager show 2 csrss.exe processes which corresponds a same file under system32 folder. One csrss.exe process has the GPU issue while the other doesn't.
2. uninstalled/reinstalled GPU driver with multiple versions, did not work.
3. Scanned virus by malwarebytes, no virus detected.
4. All symptoms appeared after a system crash, which I did not look at its details...
5. still highly suspect root cause might be a bitcoin mining malware...
6. issue not reproducible in safe mode
Thanks for reading!
