Windows 10 upgrade problem

I have been trying to upgrade my laptop from windows 7 pro edition to windows 10 home. I keep getting an error of windows failed to validate product key after the installation tool has completed running. I have tried 2 different product keys as the first one I was unsure if I had used it on a different PC but now after purchasing a second one and getting the same issue I think I might be missing something.
