Q: Have Acer Aspire T180 Getting BSOD-No Reply From DaveM121 or Sumit Dhiman2-WHY?
Q: Have Acer Aspire T180 Getting BSOD with this: IRQL Less Than Or Not Equl To

My Acer Aspire T180 came with Vista installed on it.....according to the Acer webpage this model computer was designed to run with Vista as the OS. When Windows came out I ran compatibility check and that came back stating it was ok to upgrade to Windows 10.

I keep getting the BSOD with this: IRQL Less Than or Not Equal To

I have this article from https://www.easeus.com/backup-recovery/fix-irql-not-less-or-equal-error-in-windows-10/8/7, authored by Traci King date Jul 01, 2016. This article shows 5 methods to fix this problem and get your computer out of BSOD problem.

Is this computer ok to run Windows 10?

Will I have a BIOS problem as well as it was designed to run VISTA?

Should I go back to Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Please help?

Hi Stanley, this is more than likely caused by a device driver, to diagnose the underlying issue, I need to analyse your Mini-dump file(s):

Open Windows File Explorer
Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
Zip up the contents of that folder
Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Hello,
I am Sumit, an Independent advisor and a Microsoft MVP here to help.
We need log files(called dump files) that tell us what lead to crash.
Please share them with us for a better analysis of the problem. Instructions can be found here:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...
Please let us know if you need any assistance about posting dump files.

The crash was caused by memory corruption.
Let us try finding any misbehaving driver
Enable Driver Verifier:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...
(Must create a Restore point before)
Upload the newer dumps when you get Driver_Verifier_detected_voilation.

Please note that the system might crash before you reach the desktop-if it does please let us know so that we can guide you to disable Verifier.

In addition I could not get my computer to boot up in safe mode, so I had to use the system restore point I created before running verifier.

If this dump does have the bad driver in it, I will try again tomorrow after I get off work.

I work graveyards from 12AM to 8AM PST

Respectfully,

Stanley

I see the driver verifier Bugcheck was caused by serial.sys which is a part of Motorola Modem driver:
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for smserial.sys
smserial+0x358

Timestamp: Mon Oct 26 08:08:57 2009 (4AE5BB89)
The driver dates back to 2009. A 2009 driver would not work with Windows 10.
Uninstall it temporarily and see if the BSODs persist.

Thanks for explaining your absence.

I disconnected device in Device Manager, so far no BSOD.

I am not ready to declare a victory yet.

But I have done as you advised.

I will keep you informed if I get another BSOD!

Thanks,
