Apps will not open

I'm using windows 8. After I rebooted my computer the touchscreen apps no longer will open. I can switch to desktop okay, and all my programs work fine. But apps like Skype and the Vancouver Sun, and all the apps that came with my Sony Vaio no longer open. Any idea how to fix this glitch?
