Cannot add permissions for built-in administrators group

I just migrated from a 2003 Server that had all my roles including DC file server, etc to new 2012 DC's. The only difference is that my file server is still on the old 2003 box. I'm still setting up the new file servers.

I cannot add mydomain\administrators to any file permissions. If I have to use the Domain Admins group instead of the built-in I/'m ok with that, but my concern is that I'm soon going to be doing a FRS to DFRS migration. I'm concerned that it would cause problems with the policy required for the built-in admins layed out in this article.
