Windows 10 is unable to restore from hibernation

G

galra

For a long time I haven't rebooted my system, solely hibernated it. Today I rebooted it as part of an update install. Now every time I restore from hibernation the system reboots freshly.

Additional details:

  • For a while there seemed to be a problem with the screen driver (watching videos in full screen had problems sometimes in the last week, the screen sometimes turned black and I had to reset the driver with Winkey+Ctrl+Shift+B).
  • One of today's updates failed:
    "2018-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4284835) (18)
Last failed install attempt on ‎11/‎07/‎2018 - 0x80070002"
I tried to install it manually, it fails claiming it's not applicable to my computer. Error event attached at the end.
    • I ran troubleshoot, ran sfc, chkdsk, it still doesn't install the update
  • I can hibernate, but after turning the computer back on it starts freshly. I see the following events from the log:
    • Error, Kernel-Boot, ID 16: Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC0000001.
    • Error, EventLog, ID 6008: The previous system shutdown at 00:13:12 on ‎13/‎07/‎2018 was unexpected.
    • Critical, Kernel-Power, ID 41: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
  • There are no result minidumps, although the system is configured to create them in the case of a crash
  • There are no other errors that seem relevant, only one about privileges by DistributedCOM occurring much later (added at the end)
  • There is however a warning that might be relevant(?) by WHEA-Logger (more details at the end):
    • A corrected hardware error has occurred.

  • I read it's usually an hardware issue (which is why I suspect the WHEA warning is related). I made sure all the drivers are up to date, and ran the following troubleshoots: Windows Updates, Blue Screen, Hardware and Devices, Power.

Can someone please help me to identify and fix it? I'm moving around a lot, and not being able to save my desktop state every time I move is disastrous for me.

Thanks a lot.
