Just found out that KB4338815 breaks the DPM Agent, and DPM can no longer backup the machines with the patch installed. Symptoms:
Just went through a similar issue for Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2 Server (mail not going through after ~6 hours uptime, and the only cure seems to be a reboot) with KB4338818 (see: View: https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/8y5wev/exchange_server_2010_mail_flow_issues_after/
), so it's looking like the July monthly patches need to be pulled and reissued?
Anyone else seeing the same behavior?

- DPM Server shows the protected server as Unavailable
- DPM Server shows the following event IDs in the DPM Alerts log:
- 3122: "The DPM protection agent on <snip> could not be contacted. Subsequent protection activities for this computer may fail if the connection is not established. The attempted contact failed for the following reason: (ID: 3122) The protection agent operation failed because DPM could not communicate with the Protection Agent service on <snip>. (ID: 308)
- 3144: "Creation of recovery points for <snip> on <snip> have failed. The last recovery point creation failed for the following reason: (ID: 3114) The storage involving the current operation could not be read from or written to. (ID: 40003)"
- On the protected server, the following event IDs show up in the System log:
- 10010: The server {DA6AA17A-D61C-4E9C-8CEA-DB25DEA52A95} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
- 7024: The DPMRA service terminated with the following service-specific error: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. Ports 5718 and 5719 don't show up in netstat, so the 7024 error is not accurate.
- Uninstalling KB4338815 (which then requires a reboot) resolves the issue.
