Windows server 2008 Service pack 2 Inplaceupgrade(Not R2) to Windows 2012 R2 POSSIBLE!

Hi Guys,

We are in the planning to in place upgrade from 2008 Service pack2 to 2012 R2,But i found 2 Microsoft links and on one link its mention 2008 Service pack2 can be in place to 2012 and on another link mentioned its not possible,

Please suggest.
