I recently got my mother a small laptop; a refurbished Hp with a 12" screen. Created a windows Live account so she could log in. I had to do this on a separate computer because we couldn't log her into windows- we couldn't get past the sign-in screen (after the initial setup stuff).
Long story short, she doesn't use it so I am selling it. I'm going to take all her information off of it and do a factory reset. Once I do that, when it boots up, how do I avoid creating a new identity on the laptop I want to sell? I'd like to start it up and look everything over before I put it on the auction block, but I don't want to have to use a Microsoft account because then MY creds will be on the laptop and I will be the default ADMIN.
Short story long, when I first got mom the computer, I used my account to get into windows, then made an identity for her, then tried to transfer the Admin privilege to her, and somehow lost all admin priviliges for anyone. Then of course, I couldn't even reset the computer (or make ANY changes whatsoever) because I wasn't an Admin. Somehow, after hours of trying to get support from various places (hp and ms) I gave up and demanded an exchange from Tiger Direct. I sure didn't make any friends doing that, heh heh.
I got the new one and got it right this time, but now I want to eliminate her identity. I don;t want to make the same mistake, whatever it was, that I made last time, because I know Tiger Direct won;t take another one back for an exchange. I'll be satisfied to just do a factory reset and wipe the drive. NOW IS THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING. HERE GOES:
How, once I have gotten past the preliminary setup and am stalled at the new login screen, do I log in without having to use a personal Microsoft account or make a new identity?
I hope y'all can understand what kind of problem I'm having. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks in advance! Liz Lundberg
