You'd have to run a metering progam on both boxes in order to get the
total useage of your network. If you have communication between the
systems, then that would be counted too.

Some routers keep records of incoming and outgoing packet counts,
which is presumably what you are looking for. You might have to spend
$200 to $300 for a decent multi-port router/switch with such
capabilities - but on the upside you can get 8-port giga-bit switches
for that price.

As far as a software monitor, you might want to look at DU Meter. I
downloaded a copy back in the fall of 2006, and although the
documentation claims that it only works for 30 days unless you
register (pay for) it, mine keeps on working just fine (I can't
remember if I used a key-gen on it or not).

Thanks,
I think I may settle for "Netlimiter"

Rod, do you have a dual boot computer or 2 computers with 98 and XP or
something else? I am just curious and appreciate the clarification for the
newsgroup. Have a good rest of the week.

I have two boxes
W98se with a 6 million record database
that I cannot change to XP at the moment.

I just bought my son a $50 XP P4 from Govt stores
for his gaming, put in a $50 video card, ram,and DVD RW.

Now I see what pure speed is like, and
cannot wait to trash my clunker.

I was trying to get the two to talk, but I'll wait
now till I get an XP myself. (next sale)
and address the database problem then.

I have learned the hard way that since 98 Second Edition and XP Professional
are 2 seperate lines of source code which are NT (New Technology ---
business) and 9x consumer line (had its last gasp sadly with 98 Second
Edition --- I cannot count ME since it was terrible on July 11, 2006). Since
there are 2 seperate lines of source code and 98SE has DOS as the maintance
operating system while NT, 2000, XP and Vista are missing true maintenace
operating systems that they do not especially like talking to each other
(grin) Chris Quirke, MVP from South Africa is working hard on a Linux
maintenance operating system for Vista and I am curious to see how his work
will turn out. If you are interested in his web pages then just google his
name. <smile>

I am glad you have a plan. I am looking forward to getting my new Intel CPU
chip as well as my motherboard back from repair. Enjoy the rest of your week.
