Hi everyone,
I have a question of understanding or possibly a bugreport?
I have a new virtual machine, set up with Windows Server 2016 and now wanted to manually install the latest cumulative update.
Cumulative update because it includes, to my understanding, all previous updates and also the latest updates.
The latest updates are, according to this sitee: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4000825
this one: August 14, 2018-KB4343887 (OS Build 14393.2430) for Windows Server 2016.
Then I downloaded the cumulative update from this page:
Microsoft Update Catalog
called: "2018-08 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4343887) Windows Server 2016 Security Updates 10.08.2018 k.A. 1314.0 MB"
But when I try to install this update on my new Windows Server 2016 (without any updates), I always get the message:
"Windows Update Standalone Installer: The update is not applicable to your computer."
Error message in eventlog: "Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967"
I've now gone through update for update and the last cumulative update which could be installed without error message is:
"2018-05 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4103720) Windows Server 2016 Updates 17/05/2018 k.A. 1274.9 MB"
I thought then, install KB4343887 again, but I was wrong, I had to make an interim update to KB4132216 before I could finally update to KB4343887.
Now my question, is this a bug in the most recent updates? Or do the newer updates have some dependencies?
Because my update procedure looks like:
Windows Server 2016 -> KB4103720 -> KB4132216 -> KB4343887
After all, can we still call the updates cumulative with these update dependencies?
Thanks + BR
