How to change my logon account for Office 365

I have an account that I used to purchase Office 365. I want to close that account and use my new email account instead. However when I try to add that email account to the "alias" in Office 365 it tells me the account already exists. Yes, it exists and it's the one I want to use. This account already has email. How can I change my login for Office 365 to the new account?
