I installed Win10 on my Acer Arpire D250 netbook when it was first offered. All worked well until earlier this year when the video display performance totally went to about zero. After many hours of effort I discovered today that the problem has to do with Win10 (or a recent Win10 update) as it no longer supports the Netbook's Intel graphics chip. I checked with Intel and sure enough, they no longer support the chip / driver on Win10. No way should Win10 have been able to install on this netbook in the first placed. So, I tried to use the ACER reset.. nope.. gets some sort of error about the program disk not in the right format. Well, that makes sense as it's not Win7 Starter anymore. I finally figured out how to download Win7 Starter, but only as a trial. Guess what, the netbook's graphic chip has come back to life... all works fine again.
So, my problem is or will be that I can no longer read the license key as the label on the bottom of the netbook is very faded. I extracted a key from the registry but it starts out different from the part I can see on the label.. My guess is that Win10 changed the original key to this one. At some point I'll be asked to activate Win7 Starter. Anyone have an idea as to how I can solve getting the right key?
Do note, that I blame MS for this mess.., they should be able to assist, right?
