Windows server 2012 standard remotewebaccess and macs

I have remotewebaccess enabled on my server, I have several windows 7 and windows 10 clients successfully connecting to the vpn. Macs are another issue, I get a message that 'the server failed to respond, check your settings...' the macs can ping the server using either the server name [server].remotewebaccess.com or the ipaddress, I have tried both ipsec an iKE, IKE returns an error that the passphrase is missing.
