Problem with txt files

For some reason, when saving a txt file, it replaces "fi" in any word
with a "?" in other words, first would read ?rst. any ideas? It's
probably not a vista problem, but has anyone come across this before?

a .txt file?
what program is generating this file? Usually a ASCII text editor like
Notepad writes .txt files
Are you using Word to save a .txt file?

Those are special characters and are not being recognized, hence the "?"

"fi" and "fl" for instance are called ligatures and are sometimes generated
as one single character to tuck the second character in tight to the "f"

The font being used isn't being recognized by your computer or application.

Simply select a document with this problem and change the font to "Times New
Roman" and see if that fixes it.

If you loose the "fi" or "fl" then try and determine which font is being
used and acquire it.

Word can use autocorrect to change an occurrence of "fi" to a special
character that generates the appropriate ligature.
If you are using Word you can check for this.

Good luck
