Server 2012 R2 Update Problems

Hi Guys,

I have a group of 10 identical servers, 4 of which are refusing to install update KB4343898. Updates are handled via SCCM 1802 and 4 servers are trying to install the same updates each day. This is causing production servers to reboot in business hours which isn't good.

I don't believe the problem is with SCCM as other servers have installed the update fine, please see screenshot below showing repeated attempts at installing updates...

Even though it looks like the updates are installing correctly they are not, when the server reboots I receive an error showing "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes"

This results on the server retrying the updates the following day resulting in another restart, and again and again... and so on

Things I have tried while attempting to resolve this issue include,

1. Repair SCCM client, made no difference

2. Download update manually and install it, made no difference

3. SFC /SCANNOW, made no difference

4. Repair Windows update following this guide - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-by-using-the-dism-or-system-update-readiness

Then checked online for windows updates, updates failed again.

I also noticed that I am unable to remove update KB4074594, I receive the same error "Couldn't complete updates, undoing changes"

I really don't want to have to rebuild these servers but cannot have them restarting everyday, can anyone advise on what to try next?

Please let me know if any further information is required

Regards

John
