As usual, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
If this device (a) has its own playback software (b) that
uses standard file formats e.g. MP3, all you need do
is copy music files to its memory. I do this via Linux,
in which the MP3 player connects via USB where it
appears as a pseudodrive.

We just addressed this aspect in another discussion, so I'll summarize:

If what you're referring to is direct access to the Apple site, then you
MUST be running the support software to do so. I have yet to find software
for 9X/ME which will allow such access, as Apple's software will NOT run on
9X/ME.

If what you're referring to is just playing the format, or placing those
files on your iPod/iTunes device, then there are third party applications or
pluggins that allow this. Note however, it appears you MUST first activate
your iPod using the NT/XP/VISTA software prior to using one of the third
party applications/pluggins, unless someone else has found the software to
do otherwise..

This is something that I would like Apple to support as well especially with
98 Second Edition. It seems like the business community is not aware that 98
Second Edition is still so popular with so many people. Heck, check out the
vulnerabilities of XP Professional compared to 98 Second Edition in
secunia.com and just use the search box and you can see why so many people
want to use 98 Second Edition as well as having a great 9x source code that
has not been leaked out over the Internet like the NT (New Technology) source
code has. In my opinion, Microsoft is losing lots of business by not having
a true successor to 98 Second Edition that is 9x consumer orientated and made
to work well with newer motherboards. AFAIK, no one has support for PCI
Express either for 98 Second Edition. I am fairly sure there are no official
drivers but wonder if anyone has made unofficial drivers. I am glad there is
so much support for 98 Second Edition altough I know official support by
Micrsoft ended on July 11, 2006 for Windows 98 Second Edition and all 9x
consumer line products. Finally, I am just glad that AVG antivirus still
supports 98SE as well as Spywareblaster, Spybot Search and Destroy and
especially a good alternative browser like Mozilla Firefox which will work in
Apple too and my guess is that Mozilla Firefox has a Unix/Linux verison as
well.

Roman, I tried to use a product like this and it may have been this product
in the past and it did not work for me. Have you actually tried it?

Accessing that link and searching the knowledge base, I find no reference
to the ability to access the actual iTunes site. So were you presenting that
it was another player/manager for the format and iPod, or have you used it
to access the actual iTunes site?
