turn off touch screen KEYBOARD

i need to turn off the touch screen feature for just the keyboard OR figure out WHY the keyboard pops up every single time I use my cursor via the actual keyboard. it blocks half the screen and makes it very difficult to do anything. i click the CLOSE X to remove it but then it appears with the next use of the cursor. this happens in all actions (email, facebook, google search, google docs, etc). anyone able to help troubleshoot?
