re activation failure in windows vista home basic

bill huff

i have an IBM/Lenovo think center desktop. I came factory installed with windows vista home basic 32 bit and has worked fine for years. I lost the hard drive in and went to Staples and bought a new one. re installed the OEM operating system from the original disks supplies with the computer and entered the OEM license key . it would go to the scroll bar trying to activate and it would get 3/4 of the wy through and then get this error code <oxc004E003> and as we all know the link to microsoft is no longer any good . also the buy a new key online site is also non existent now too.

so, does any one here have any understanding of why this happenes when one uses the correct software with the correct OEM license key ? And is there a way to work around this to get it back up and activated ? the answer to upgrade the machine is not an option , it came with windows vista and is not windows 7 capable. the alternativeis to go back down to windows Xp. there is no going up !

any help or links or info will be appreciated very much ! Bill !and to clarify things here , I'm not trying to run vista with on an "old machine"from another machine or anything of the like. this machine came with vista home basic, i have the original software and the original license key i bought with the machine . i find no reason this error message should keep popping up so that the activation won't go through !
