KMS Licensing/Setup

I setup a KMS Host server on my network but I think I am missing some information regarding KMS that I have yet to find. I have machines that are using the GVLK key from Microsoft to setup machines. When the clients check into the KMS server shouldn't the license key get changed to the proper KMS key that was entered into the KMS server? Once they check into the KMS server why do they not automatically update the Product section of VAMT or should it? I don't think I need to run a discovery manually every time a machine is built and joined to the domain.
