The PC in question is an (OFFLINE) ASUS Essentio Series 6870 CF (CM6870 | Tower PCs | ASUS USA). It came with "Windows 7", but I installed "Windows 10 Home". This version lasted for a couple of years until it started to do strange things like create USER ADMIN accounts when I didn't ask it for one.
After a couple of weeks, I managed to use a USB install of Windows 8 in order to make it work. I had to fiddle with the BIOS so that it would even take. Ultimately, it did. I have an ASUS UEFI BIOS version 0606 (CPU TYpe is Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz. Total Memory is 16,384 MB (DDR3 1,600 MHz & Speed: 3,400 MHz). I cannot use the Windows Recovery Environment as the computer is stuck cycling through boot sources.
I started re-installing all the software it had before. I noticed it had lag issues, so I disabled startup apps in order to make it move faster. That worked. I made a System Restore Point in addition to the automatic one created by the PC itself and moved on. Then, I began to install at least 3 more apps and some fonts. Windows 8 decided to UPDATE (even though it was only BRIEFLY connected to the internet for the purpose of certain other unrelated apps). This PC is an offline computer, so the internet is not actually important.
Upon another RESTART...... the computer lost its connection to the startup screen. It is now going straight to a black screen (with cursor). Even if I try to hard start three times to get into WRE, nothing happens...... just a black screen (with cursor). I don't have any free external HDs. I would have to transfer 1TB of the info in ONE drive in order to use that drive for a USB boot. This takes a long time as I would have to move the files that are on there to someplace else and then move them back after the USB has been used for a BOOT.
Any ALTERNATIVE ideas? I think it is a BIOS "boot" issue as Windows 8 IS on the local C: drive.
Thanks in advance.
