Monitor keeps on saying no signal when I plug in VGA and going to sleep

When I plug in my VGA cord to the monitor and pc it says going to sleep. The keyboard and mouse wont light up. It is a Hp Pavilion 500 PC series computer and a HP 19in LCD monitor. the pc light is on but nothing i plug into the pc turns on. For any questions on anything about the pc contact me at *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. ( It was working yesterday).
