Direct Access Config Updating Network Location Server Settings DNS Name does not exist

I cannot figure out for the life of me why we are getting this error setting up direct access. for the certificate on the prior step it excpects a CN of directaccess-nls.ourdomain.com which i add to dns manually for both ipv4 and 6. as soon as i click finish to apply settings it always fails with above error in subject line. The dns entries then disappear from our server. Can anyone help?
