Aero not working

I installed windows vista premium and the aero function is not working. I am
not sure if my video card is compatable with directx, how do I check that.

Other than non of the features are showing up, the task bar thumbnail is
ghosted, there is no color scheme that says vista.

I have it on 32 bit and everything else,

Any ideas, my lap is a hp pavilion dv 1000, bought in 04.
thanks

I read somewhere that a minimum of 2GB of RAM was needed to run Aero.

1 Gig of RAM is enough memory to run Vista Home Premium with Aero.

Re: Graphics, 128 MBs is minimum.

BUT, check your Manufacturer's website to see if they have a Vista graphics
compatible driver for your computer.

Being 2004 manufacture, I doubt if they would.

Manufacturers are NOT writing drivers for older hardware being used with
Vista.

What are your Performance readings? How much memory in machine. Did you go
to Video
Card Maker's site and get updated drivers?

Totally and absolutely incorrect. If you read that Vista requires 1TB hard
drive space to install correctly, please don't post that here.

Right click on desktop. Select Personalization. Click on Windows Color and
Appearance. Click on the link "Open classic appearance properties for more
color options." Is Windows Aero listed as a color scheme? If so, select it.
If not, read on...

Look at your display adapter entry in Device Manager. If it shows WDDM in
the listing for the display adapter, your video card driver supports Aero.
If it shows XDDM, your video card driver does not support Aero. If the
latter, might there be a new driver for your video card from the vendor that
does support Aero? Possibly. Have you checked the vendor web site for new
drivers for your video card?

Thank you so much for the help. Ok so first I do not have anything in Open
classic appearance properties for more more options" link. And there is not
Window Aero listed.

So I checked with my vendor website, the last update for my graphic card
was August 2006. Now the vendor did say that the graphic card I have (which
is a XDDM), but is compatable with Direct x9. I am trying to download it now
to see if it does anything but am not quite familiar with x9 so I will have
to check it out.

We shall see, otherwise looks like I may just have a vista upgrade without
Aero :(

Thanks again

Well, your graphics card also has to have Pixel Shader 2.0 Support...

If your video card -driver- is XDDM, forget Aero. Won't happen. Today,
tomorrow, or next year. If your video -card- does not support pixel 2
shading, as another respondant pointed out, doesn't even matter if a WDDM
driver is released for your card (not likely), you still won't get Aero.

I apologize if that comes off harsh. Don't mean it to be. That's just the
way it is.

That said, Aero is not the only reason to use Vista. (There are some Aero
features that I like, the transparent borders (AKA "eye candy") and the
thumbnail's that appear when one hovers the mouse over a task bar icon, are
my favorite features. Flip 3-D? Yawn...)

Good luck!
