Windows installer...

It seems like, and may in fact be, that every time I start anything I get a
momentary Windows Installer dialog box saying that it is "Preparing to
install".

Preparing to install what? Is there something that I need to do to stop
this or is it just something that a Vista [Ultimate] user has to get used
to?

No.

Sorry, but don't know what the root cause of your problem is. Do you have a
system restore point to which you can revert to see if the problem is fixed?
I guess that won't make a difference if you've had this problem from "day
one." But if not, a restore point might be worth trying. How new is the PC?
Or Vista install? And -have- you had this problem from "day one?"

Hi Lang. Yesterday I upgraded my XP Pro sp2 to Vista Ultimate. This
started the moment that the upgrade completed. So no, no restore point.
