crypt32 - Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number

D

dm3281

Hello, I'm getting a bunch these messages every two hours in my Windows 2003
application log. The servers in question do not have outbound internet
access.

Message: Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence
number from:
<http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt>
with error: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

What does this mean?

How can I manually update this?

We do not have Microsoft Updates enabled on the servers and use Shavlik to
push our patches.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

You may disable the Windows Automatic Update, as you do not use WSUS neither
the online Windows update.

Yeah, but the servers are web servers. Shouldn't I update the certificates?
The applications on the server talks to itself via web services, etc., using
HTTPS protocol. Would I not want to ensure the certs stay up to date on the
web server?

How would I manually update this?

You can download manualy intermediate certificates.

Verisign:

Re: crypt32 - Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root li

I'm having the same problem. Can someone give me a step by step to fix?

Automatic updates are disabled through control panel yet this error still
appears.
