dont have an answer, but I think you need to expand on what you want your
utility to do.
these strings are functionally identical, equally trivial, but way different
1
<?php
echo 'hello'
?>
2
<?php echo 'hello' ?>
a file comparison utility would throw a fit

WinDiff, available on the Windows 98 CD, in the "\tools\reskit\file" folder. You
can install the entire ResKit (Resource Kit), or you can just copy the needed files
for WinDiff: windiff.exe, windiff.hlp, and gutils.dll

Will try this WinDiff. From screenshot not clear whether it can show
differences in side-by-side format, though.
I need compare CSS files and some other text files to see difference.

If you need side-by-side comparison (which IIRC Windiff does not do), this might
better suit your needs:

ExamDiff
http://www.prestosoft.com/edp_examdiff.asp

Try them both, and use what suits you best....they are both free.

I have also used CSDiff in the past, but it doesn't do side-by-side either, IIRC:

Should I put Windif files in 'Program Files' directory?

S.

Switch to a DOS prompt and use the built-in fc.exe command.

Type "fc /?" for usage information.

For example, the following command performs a binary comparison of two
files:

fc /b file1 file2

An ASCII comparison will identify dissimilar blocks of text and will
resync if the differences aren't too great.

If you wish.....you can make a Windiff folder under Program Files and put the files
there.

WinDiff is good thing. ExamDiff not tried yet. As to DOS based comparision
fc it looks difficult to get visual info.
Thanks a lot.
