Hi All,
I have a Dell PowerEdge T440 deployed as the only server and Domain Controller.
It was originally setup with a 2016 STD (Desktop Experience) trial (ISO directly from MS), then converted to full active with a license (P73-07113).
Additionally, it was configured minimally as a Domain Controller with AD for file/user management and BitLocker on the data RAID 5 volume (not the O.S. array, RAID 1).
All Windows Updates have been set to apply automatically, and there are no 3rd party applications or antivirus programs installed.
I recently went to add Windows Server Backup via the Add Roles and Features GUI, and was met with an error:
"Role and feature refresh failed with the following error: The request to list features available on the specified server failed.
Unable to obtain the feature list.
The specified package is not valid Windows package. Error: 0x800f0805"
After Googling this to death, there appears to be no common cause (or solution), and has happened with various Windows O.S.'s, both server and desktop.
One of those causes we can rule out is a corrupt Language Pack (French seems to be a problem), none of those are present nor have been installed - only English (US).
Other causes I have found include corrupt .Net installs/upgrades, which have not been done, at least not initiated by me (maybe by MS?).
Then there are reports of misapplied Windows Updates, which I am leaning towards suspecting as the culprit, here is why:
When using the settings "app" (the gear), I can check for updates, and am shown as being up to date, with a number of updates having been successfully installed.
However, if I go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates, the window says "No updates are installed on this computer".
At the risk of not providing too much information (maybe too late in some areas?) or not enough, I am going to submit this as is and await further direction.
I REALLY appreciate any/all guidance on this issue as this is an active Domain Controller, and would create big problems were a reinstall be required.
TIA!
