Transfer ipod classic songs to Surface Pro 3 running Windows 8

I have been trying everything to recover over 11k songs from my old ipod classic into itunes library using my Surface Pro 3 Windows 8 tablet and have been unsuccessful. When I hook up the ipod it comes up as a disk that needs to be scanned and when I check to see if its there under file explorer it is but won't allow me to find the hidden file since there is no "tools" bar at the top. I would appreciate any feeddback since I have tried using iexplorer, you tube videos, etc and nothing has worked.
