windows security demanding username and password for e mail account

I have a very old system, still using Vista.

I use windows mail as the app to receive email but in the last week, every time I log on, the system demands a username and password for authorisation before connecting. I am stuffed as the Internet provider says "nothing to do with thme"

Any ideas?
