I have two Domain Controllers on my LAN. They have identical DNS configurations. One is 2008 R2 and the other is 2012 R2. I select Simple and Recursive boxes in the DNS Monitoring tab and press "Test Now". The 2008 R2 server responds immediately passing both tests, everytime. The 2012 R2 server hangs for 5-12 seconds and always reports a pass for simple and, more often than not, a fail for recursive.
What can I do to make DNS on my 2012 R2 server as fast and reliable as DNS on my 2008 R2 server?
Things that didn't work:
I disabled EDns on my 2012 R2 server as per this article: Scott Forsyth's Blog - Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS Issues
I set aging to 7 days, manually scavenged, updated server data files, cleared cache and restarted the DNS server several times.
