Hello guys,
Adding a new disk to a Windows Server 2016, bring it online and initialize the disk, all is working.
But after rebooting the server for the first time (after adding the disk and bringing it online), the server will set the newly added disk as "offline".
We are using OS Windows Server 2016, installed as VM on ESXi 6.0 Host. The VMDK was added (for testing with 5 GB - Thick Provisioned Eager Zeroed) with a Logical LSI SAS SCSI-Controller. Do not ask me why, but with the VM Paravirtual SCSI-Controller, I am not able to reconstruct the failure.
Here you can see a screenshot after adding the disk to the Windows server, brining it online and initialize the disk
--> Therefore the disk is online and useable
Then we make a reboot of the OS system. Aftwards, I have the following situation in diskmanagement:
I know, we can change the SAN-Policy from "Offline Shared" to "Online All" to workaround this problem.
In my opinion, this is not a real solution - because sometimes it could be helpful, when you add a new disk to a server and the disk is not online automatically.
