Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Error

So I recently started using this semi-old computer from around 2010, an Acer Aspire X1200. I wanted it to be as most up to date as possible, so I got the Windows 7 Upgrade Avdisor. I opened it and pressed the button Start checking, and it gives me a message that says “Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor was unable to reach the Microsoft server for compatibility information. Check your internet connection and try again later.”

I know very little about computers so I am lost. Can someone help me or at least tell me what I am doing wrong?
