upgrading ME to XP

HI, someone has an ad in the newspaper that is selling an older pc that she
says she loaded it with XP and it runs good.

However, in the event of a reinstall needed, the recovery disks will be
reloaded with ME (which she will provide with the newly upgraded older pc)
Just what kind of differences (physically and mechanically, etc) will there
be if an older pc is upgraded from an ME, to an XP home edition. I have a 2
yr old laptop with XP home. WIll the windows, icons, prompts, etc look the
same on both pcs with XP even though older pc had ME once?

hope my question makes sense as I havent seen the older pc w/Xp

Although a clean install of XP is preferable to an upgrade...
if you have the upgrade version of XP...then that's what you will have to
use.

Since the ME recovery disk will not serve as a qualifying product...
unless you have a win98/ME cd (etc) you will in-fact have to install ME
first from the recovery disk
then upgrade it to XP.
Since it will be a fresh installtion of ME...with nothing else on it...
chances are the XP upgrade will go fine...and will probably be no different
than the XP installation on your other machine

The end result is that the PC will be running XP Home and in most respects
the method of installation is immaterial. The difference being that any
applications installed whilst running Win Me will still be installed after
upgrading to XP, that is all except those such as AV applications and CD
burning apps that need to be uninstalled prior to any upgrade 9after which
they can be reinstalled).

How it will look visibly is very much down to you. For example if in XP
you choose Classic Mode and turn off themes then it will look very similar
to Win Me however that is your choice and fully reversible.

Since the PC was upgraded to XP from Win Me you should try and ensure that
not only do you get the original Win Me disks but also the XP upgrade disk
as well.
