[SOLVED] Intel Driver OPTIONAL update 11.7.0.1045 prevents reboot on Windows Server 2012 R2

Last year, I installed this "driver update" - and since then that machine did not reboot! Regardless of what I tried, the computer always shut down and did never reboot. Every single time I tried to reboot, it did shut down, and I had to manually restart it. This was really a pain - especially as that server was meant to be remotely managed...

It was only recently, that I found out what solved the problem, solve it for me at least:

  • First of all, it was not possible to uninstall that "driver update".
  • BIOS update suggested somewhere else was not apllicable on my machine.
  • Then I looked into Computer Management (show all devices) and discovered that
    • "PCI communications controller (simple)" did not work - but unfortunately, disabling it did not help
    • Intel(R) Management Engine Interface" IMEI did not work either
  • I deactivated and uninstalled the latter - and everything was fine again; the machine did reboot if requested!

I hope doing this will help others having the same problem, too!
