User profile disks all becoming disconnected in RDS environment

Hi All,

I have a solution with a RDS Gateway, User profile disk server, and two RD Session host servers.
These are all virtual machines. The session host servers are on different hypervisors.

Users log in via the gateway and are load-balanced onto one of the session host servers, where their user profile disk is mounted.

I'm experiencing an issue whereby all of the user profile disks on a particular session host server are being dropped which leaves all of the user sessions unusable.

It is happening on both session host servers, but never both at the same time.

When it occurs, I can see a load of event id 129's...

That is followed by literally thousands of event 51, 'An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk7\DR14 during a paging operation.'. Presumably the error that was detected was that the disk is no longer available.

Restarting the virtual machine that is experiencing the issue at any given time allows users to use the session host again without issue for several hours.

I can't see any network related issues and the RDP sessions are not hanging or disconnection, so I'm fairly confident there isn't a network issue with the session host servers.

Also, I'm fairly confident that it can't be a network issue with the UPD server (user profile disk) as, if this was the case it would happen on both session host servers simultaneously and it is not doing - it is happening independently on each SH.

I have seen a post suggesting ensuring the VM is in 'high performance' mode from a power settings perspective, which they were not but now are; the issue has persisted so that's not it.

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on where to look for a cause?

Thanks in advance :)
