Flash drive Win98 compatibility?

The wife and I are trying to nurse our old computers along until tax
return time when we'll buy new ones. We both have AMD750s on GAIXE
boards. My old HP burner went mams up so I bought a new one from the
local comp store. It came with Nero 7 & claimed to be compatible with
win98 but I couldn't get it to burn anything. I used my old burner as
another drive with drag & drop capability for back-ups and the like. I
only have a 20 GB HD & space is becoming an issue. I took it to the
store I bought the drive at & they had to put an older burner in to
get it to work with win98 at all. We also discovered Nero 7 won't
support drag & drop in win98. The option to install InCD isn't even
there, even when doing a custom install. Doing some investigation I
discovered this is a long standing issue with Nero & the last version
fully compatible with win98 is Nero 5.

As a possible way around this issue I'm considering a flash drive but
all the drives I find don't list win98 in the system requirements. A
friend told me that I should be able to download drivers for win98 on
the web. I don't want to spend $40 then not be able to use the flash
drive. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Thanks for your time.
