Hello,
I am in the process of moving all of our operations from one physical server 2016 to two VMs with a Hyper V host. I am using a retail license and using the ISO that I downloaded from the VLSC site, not the evaluation version.
I have my current physical machine activated and licensed obviously.. I also have my other physical host with server 2016 installed, and two VMs with server 2016 installed, all 3 of the latter are currently not activated.
CAN I ACTIVATE THESE LICENSES WITHOUT CAUSING ANY PROBLEMS?
I type this in caps because I've asked countless people including various microsoft support and nobody can give me a straight answer.
I've been told (by Microsoft) to just do it and call if I have any issues. I've also been told (by Microsoft) that I cannot do this and I need to purchase another license to use temporarily for 1 week while I move things over. This is obviously absurd and it's not going to happen.
From what I understand there is only a 10 day grace period on a retail ISO that isn't activated. The 10th day is the day I'm planning on moving all of my applications and EVERYTHING over... if it reboots every hour that day it is not going to work. So I want to simply activate all 3 of them with the same key, making a total of 4 instances being active on the same network with one retail license for about 1 week until I decommission the old server.
I hope somebody can provide a very straightforward answer on this one because I've had plenty of vague assumption type answers that have left me more confused than anything... Thank you.
