Windows 8 update to 8.1

My 83 year old aunt has a Samsung 500T Notebook which we upgraded to Windows 8.1 when she bought it about 5 years ago. She recently had to have a factory reset done and it now is back to Windows 8. I see in the store there is an upgrade option to Windows 8.1 but have been unsuccessful in doing this. is anyone able to assist with this please?
