Up until a couple of days ago, I could say "Hey Cortana, Play Morph the Cat" and she would open the album up in Spotify. Suddenly, she will go to Groove Music, which doesn't work because there's nothing there. There are a few albums she will still reliably open in Spotify, although I can't see any method to this madness. I can get Cortana to play The Nightfly on Spotify (now) only by saying "Hey Cortana, play the album the Nightfly on Spotify."
ADDED: Not only this, but it will sometimes not even play the right album even if I say the magic words. "Hey Cortana, play the album Heavy Horses on Spotify." She announces the album, shows the artwork, but then plays Stand Up. (Both Jethro Tull, but that's the best I can say.)
I have a premium Spotify account, Spotify is connected / preferred (and only) service on the relevant Cortana skills card.
A trip to the "Answer Desk" at the Microsoft Store provided the answer that that's just the way it's always been and, anyway, it's not such a big deal to figure out the magic words to make Cortana do what ("you claim") she used to do simply and add "on Spotify." By "magic words," I mean if I say, "Hey Cortana, play The Nightfly on Spotify" I get a playlist with that name. So, now I have to specify "The Nightfly album on Spotify." I never had to put up with this before.
All I want is to make Cortana forget Groove Music again. I want this feature to work like it did before, like it does with my Invoke. "Hey Cortana, play the Nightfly," and boom, Spotify opens and it plays the album.
There are a million discussions about Cortana and Spotify and Groove, but I haven't seen this problem. I did everything right and it worked. I am looking for a fix for this annoying problem. (Bonus question, what is so important about Groove that it is not only still included, but undeletable?)
Surface 4 Windows 10 up-to-date through 2018-12 cumulative update (after which I started having the problems) and the security update that followed.
Thank you.
