Hi there,

I have recently began to update my dc's to windows server R2. from
server 2003, and when i try and do anything i guet schema errors (had
similar errors why trying to upgrade to server 2003 from 2003 last
year, but i wasnt the descision maker then), anyway after carefull
thought i have decided to rebuild my domain. I have installed a server
with R2 setup a new domain identical name (Isolated) from the existed
one, exported all the users and Ou's from the old one and imported the
new one, only im unsure on how to do computers, i used ldifde. i
understand there is an alternative version of this tool (not supported
by ms) that will allow me to just import the whole thing regardsless
of error's etc, which wouldnt be a problem im just concerned that i
won't be doing myself any justice if i do that as ill probably end up
carrying over crap data etc so im trying to do it bit by bit.

Any help on how to export computers using ldifde would be much
appreciated.

Regards James

Hello TJ_2006,

To prevent you from the schema error just run adprep /forestprep and adprep
/domainprep from the second r2 cd against your schema master, which is mostly
the first installed domain controller. The account you use must be a member
of the schema admins. Then you can add additional dc's as R2 version to your
existing domain.

(Is also the same to upgrade to R2)

Best regards
